The International Peace Festival

The goal of the festival is to promote issues concerning the culture of peace, solidarity and ecology in terms of different social, political and religious views. This will be achieved through cultural and artistic presentations, culminating in national and international musical events that will be held in Assisi, a city that, more than any other one in the world, embodies these very same ideals.
The Festival focuses the attention on the 21 st of September, UN International Day of Peace, a worldwide day dedicated to Peace and Non-Violence, with the aim to let community know the engagement of the United Nations pro Peace in the world and to promote the Millennium Development Goals – Target 2015.
The seminars and the round tables on “Peace, Human Rights and Cooperation” are organized in collaboration with national and international humanitarian associations, with the participation of influential lay and religious personalities, ambassadors of Developing Countries and representatives of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Among the artistic initiatives organized every year in the Town Hall of Assisi (Ex Pinacoteca and Sala delle Logge), the painting, sculpture and photography exhibitions dedicated to the topics of Peace and Solidarity. In the course of the event theatrical and dancing performances are organized; music, universal vehicle of communication, is presented in all the kinds, from classic to jazz to musical comedy, privileging artistic – cultural talents and original projects dedicated to peace and brotherhood among people.
Among the events consolidated within the years we signalled: the “Extraordinary concert for Peace in the world” in the Superior Basilica of S. Francis, on the occasion of the UN International Day of Peace, with the participation of symphony orchestras; the concert “United Artists for Peace” in the Public Square of the city, with artists of pop music of national and international reputation engaged in the social field; the concert “Jazz for Peace – The Great Italian Jazz” dedicated to Peace; the “Free Stage”, with the participation of artists and young groups playing all musical kinds; and the concerts of ethnic music, with international artists.
Every year, the organization confers, with the Authority of the city, the Prize “Artist for Peace” to artists engaged in solidarity and humanitarian projects.
The evening concerts are performed in prestigious places, such as the Sala della Conciliazione, in the Town Hall, the town hall square, the Superior Basilica of S. Francis, the Metastasio Theatre, the Lyrick Theatre and the Rocca Maggiore.
