PRIZE “BROTHER SUN”

Every year the Association “United Artists for Peace” confers, together with the Authorities of the Town Council of Assisi, the prestigious prize “Brother Sun” to scientists, institutions and personalities of international level engaged in the field of ecology and feeding.
In 2004 the prize was conferred to Prof. Antonio Moroni (Emeritus Professor of Ecology of the University of Parma and Member of the Academy of Sciences – known as XL) and in 2005 to Prof. Giorgio Celli (Member of the European Parliament; Faculty of Agriculture - University of Bologna).

EVENING CONCERTS

During the three evenings of the manifestation, there are concerts and performances of high artistic level, premières of musical works and film – documentary dedicated to nature and environment.
In the course of the evenings the Prize “Artists for Ecology” is conferred to composers, directors, painters or photographers engaged in the field of ecology.

THE ECOLOGICAL WALK

The Ecological Walk on the Mount Subasio concludes the event. To the initiative, which aims at the defence of the environment and the promotion of the territory, numerous sportive and environmental associations participate.
The people that take part to the Walk, are accompanied by expert hikers, botanists and geologists that during the way illustrate the naturalistic peculiarity of the territory.
At the end of the Walk, there is the distribution of gadgets and a tasting of typical local products.

The Ecological Weekend, realized in Assisi, city of Saint Francis patron of the ecologists, proposes to promote the Environmental and Alimentary Education, through seminars, round tables, visual art exhibitions and expositive stands.
The Ecological Weekend, which lasts three days, is organized by the Cultural Association “United Artists for Peace”, in cooperation with the Town Council of Assisi.
The manifestation, of high scientific and cultural level takes advantage of the support of a Scientific Committee and the cooperation of university teachers and maximum experts (CNR, INRAN, EFSA).
The Ecological Weekend takes advantage of numerous acknowledgements and prestigious patronages, among them the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and the support of the Ministry of Environment, of the Ministry of Agriculture, of the Ministry of Education and of the Ministry of Public Health.
Prestigious athenaeums and institutions collaborate to the realization of the manifestation, among them the University of Perugia, the University of Parma and the Italian Society of Ecology.
In the course of the manifestation the national academies of “Food, Cooking and Gastronomic Sciences” are presented, with the participation of maximum experts in gastronomy and the presentation of “The Recipes of the Ecological Weekend”.
From the 2005 edition, the organization has introduced the initiative “Ecological Weekend – Schools Project”, important occasion to propose to students healthy styles of life, promote correct alimentary habits and awaken to the respect of the environment.
